EXPLANATION OF COMPLETE ENLIGHTENMENT SÙTRA – CHAPTER 01 – PART 01

CHAPTER 01: MANJUSRI BODHISATVA

SÙTRA:

At that time, Manjusri Bodhisatva was among The mass, from his seat stood up, then worshiped with his forehead as high as Buddha’s feet, according to right tendency of Buddha, walked around Buddha three times, kneeled straight, joined his hands and said:

Buddha with great compassion, for the Bodhisatvas joining this Dharma Congress, could You talk about Buddha’s preliminary basic actions? About how Bodhisatvas in Mahàyàna should arise Bodhicitta so that it can be Pure, Free from sickness? And in the final period, what should people who seek Mahàyàna Dharma do to avoid wrong knowledge?

After saying, Manjusri Bodhisatva put his five body parts on the ground to worship Buddha. Bodhisatva made that request three times in that posture respectfully, after each time of request he started over again.

Then, Buddha taught Manjusri Bodhisatva:

Very well, Good Son, for other Bodhisatvas, you ask about Tathàgata’s preliminary basic actions, and for people who seek Mahàyàna Dharma in the final period, you ask how to reach Correct Dwelling, not to Fall into the Wrong Knowledge. You should listen carefully, Tathagàta will expound.

Manjusri Bodhisatva felt glad and together with The mass listened quitely.

EXPLANATION:

The first part of Complete Enlightenment Sùtra is Manjusri Bodhisatva who represents others to say to Lokajyestha. Manjusri Bodhisatva represents wisdom as well as all the Bodhisatvas joining this Dharma Congress.

Showing the wishing citta and respect, Manjusri Bodhisatva worshiped with his forehead as high as Buddha’s feet, according to right tendency of Buddha, walked around Buddha three times, which is also a manifestation of Manjusri Bodhisatva’s right-meditation together with three times: Past, Present, Future, but still in the Supreme Enlightenment_Great Samadhi Citta. Because of wanting all Bodhisatvas and satvas to enter Lokajyestha’s Right-Meditation Treasure, he said:

  • How are Lokajyestha’s preliminary basic actions?

It means in order to achieve the integration like Lokajyestha, what are the basic things that need to be done and how they are to be done?

_ About how Bodhisatvas in Mahàyàna should arise Bodhicitta so that it can be Pure, Free from sickness? And in the final period, what should people who seek Mahàyàna Dharma do to avoid wrong knowledge?

 All are based on Complete Enlightenment. Because it is transparent, pure, constant in the three times without deterioration.

Complete Enlightenment Nature is no immersion, without differences, leaving phenomenal defilement; gathering all things and species, but without impurity, also without increase or decrease.

All are only the dreaming scenes of Complete Enlightenment Nature _ Eternal True Entity. Dharmas according to conditions are distinguished into Existence and Inexistence, because the true form of all Dharmas is Without Form, all are born by illusorily combined conditions so they do not really exist. But conditions are also no self-nature, so they are no-birth. Conditions are the place for all Dharmas to appear – disappear, existence_inexistence is also no-birth, how can it be said that all Dharmas are true? So internal and external Dharmas are just illusory, as illusion  no longer exists, there is only Enlightenment- Wisdom with the seeing and knowing as the truth in three times Past, Present, Future, no longer limited by the organs of senses, the environment of the gunas, consciousness, Skandhas, …

Constantly holding that insight, people who desire Mahayana Dharma in the final period will not fall into Wrong Knowledge.
